Since 2013, Hyundai Card, ONE–O–ONE Architects, and Jeju island have been working on this project that will enact change in order to protect Gapado Island. The island is recognized as a sanctuary where stunning nature and unique culture coexist.
During this project, I designed a permanent exhibition as an archive room in order to express the importance of preservation and the local values of Gapado Island. The archive room hosts a permanent exhibition of Gapado Project with the aim of sharing the distinctive and eccentric highlights that the island offers to visitors and even local villagers. I created narratives that show the process of change; thus, visitors can appreciate the Gapado Project’s story from the intro, models, horizontal landscape photographs, maps, and images showing the ecosystem of Gapado Island according to the narratives. I considered materials meticulously since the archive room has to protect the drawings and models from humidity and salinity.
The island has a horizontal landmark with a maximum height of 20 meters. The archive room narratives were designed to resemble the island's ecology, a horizontal landscape, to show its value
