118 The ARITA Galaxy

Inspired by Marshall McLuhan’s “Galaxy Gutenberg”(1962), ARITA was born as the ARITA Galaxy, consisting of 3 languages, 4 fonts, and 19 type families. The inner spaces(known as “counters”), which are elements that reveal the characteristics of the characters, were deconstructed and reinterpreted to be implemented in Amore Seongsu and mobile screens. The lethargic galaxy of Windows is amplified into a new dimension on mobile screens, offering a unique text-reading experience. The meticulously overlapped ARITA fonts resemble siblings, with similar expressions yet each peculiar in its own way.

115, 122 Translate Real Estate 1.0

Translate Real Estate explores the communication between the creators of location-based sounds and how to reconstruct scenes without visible information. Translate Real Estate 1.0 began by selecting two locations in different cities, New Haven and Brooklyn or others, each week. Then, we record for 1 minute to capture and embrace the soundscape of the location. Once the recordings are made, we immediately intuitively create images of what we hear, even if we do not provide exact details. We, both designers, communicated with these sounds every week, and eventually, we collected 70 sounds with 70 videos.

114 The Swing

Putting thought into exploring the themes of location, boundaries, projection, and freedom, I set up the video on a swing, and my collaborator performed. Constructing something that responds to the boundaries(radius) of the free-flying swing, which is an end of freedom or the radius of perceived space, the liberation of some kind in the physical body of people who get on the swing. Resenting the limit where the trajectory of the swing cannot deviate from the circle.

106 Personal Copy (beta)

Personal Copy is a chatbot specializing in graphic design about crawling through my experience and knowledge. Personal Copy is responding to the subjectivity, interpretation, intervention, and adaptation of design work as a mode of production. It reduces my workload by indicating what I need to check repeatedly as I work. I have coded and built a dialog model for working on sentences, and the chatbot grows with me in proportion to my experience. The ultimate goal of this work is to have empathy for labor. Even in the future, I will always try to observe the errors and glitches that arise from our experience.

102 This Manifesto is Silent. II

This work is generated from newspaper articles that have been emailed to my Yale account every day since 2021. Information, statements, and quotes from subscribed news are translated into the words laid out in the same typeface on a small screen. Words are taken out of context and disconnected from their function. None of that content has more weight than the rest—we absorb it indiscriminately as though scrolling through our social media feeds. All that surrounds me finds its way back into a language in a democratic manner.

The Denatured Machine

99 Dog Brick

Dogleg Brick was created from the perspective of navigation to view the works made during the semester. This is an instruction for reflecting meta-project; pieces are laid in the sequence that the beginning is the end, and the end is the beginning. Each project had many junctures and turnarounds. Scrolling creates a perspective, and each work is reflected in this perspective and flows in a coherent direction.

96 Ghost Particle

Inspired by Alex Galloway and Mark Tribe’s Starry Night , Ghost Particle is an alt interface that means alternative ways to visualize and access archives and texts. These Ghost Particles resemble stars generated from Google Calendar: from 05/22/2012 to 03/24/2023 to explore, wander, and search. ... This elucidates a variety of diverse differences in readership and the fundamental infrastructure by which we access information.

95 The Live of Asako Iwama

The Live of Asako Iwama has been created from 1 hour and 42 minutes. Conversation between Asako Iwama and me on February 11, 2022, at 8:00 a.m. New York time and 2:00 p.m. Berlin time. On the web, we are far from being aware of reading. The reader reads the interview through this web in two ways, actively and passively, separated by text and images in estimated reading and running time. The reader won’t be able to go back or undo it, and there will be no pause. A website designed this way suggests and restricts new reading methods for the reader.

94 Visiting Artist Lecture in Photography: Ed Atkins

Ed Atkins tells a story by setting up an avatar in his work; I thought about the form in which a 3D character announces and continuously reproduces and interacts with itself to appear on the screen.
